National Faith Advisory Board

Dear Faith Leader

Do you remember when the Supreme Court decided with a 5-4 vote that same sex “marriage” was legal in the U.S. in the now famous case of Obergefell v. Hodges, a decision that reversed a 135 year history of states solely recognizing marriage as between a man and a woman? The year was 2015 and marriage was redefined for our legal system.

The good news is that on Nov. 7th, a new petition will be discussed and voted upon that would cause the Supreme Court to accept a case with potential to reverse the decision of the same sex marriage case.

Isaiah 5:20 reminds us that, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”

We invite you to join NFAB in prayer that the Supreme Court will have wisdom as they discuss and vote upon whether to accept this case.

Supreme Court: More About the Upcoming Petition

Potential to Overturn Supreme Court decision on Same Sex Marriage

This petition that will be discussed on Nov. 7th could lead to the Supreme Court deciding to hear a case that could have the potential of overturning the Obergefell v. Hodges decision requiring states to grant marriage licenses to same sex couples.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • The new petition is from Kim Davis, a former county clerk from Kentucky who temporarily ceased issuing any marriage licenses so as not to discriminate against anyone while she sought accommodation for her religious beliefs.
  • Kim Davis was sued by two men for not issuing them a marriage license and as a result was jailed for six days and slapped with a $360,000 fine.

  • Davis is requesting the Supreme Court to review her case and one of the questions that is being presented by her attorneys from Liberty Counsel is whether the Obergefell v. Hodges opinion (the one that required states to recognize same sex marriage) was wrongly decided and should be overturned!
