Dear Faith Leader

Yesterday our nation observed the National Day of Prayer, a timely reminder that prayer is not merely a tradition, it is a sacred responsibility. In every generation, Godโ€™s people have been called to seek His face, intercede for their leaders, and ask for His mercy, wisdom, and renewal in the land.

We hope you’ll join us in praying: for our nation, for our leaders and those in authority, for our churches, and for every community across America. In a moment when our country needs truth and spiritual awakening, may we return again to the Lord, trusting that He hears the prayers of His people.

โ€œThe prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.โ€

โ€”James 5:16

Prayer in The People’s House

White House Proclamation Honors National Day of Prayer

The White House issued a presidential proclamation for the National Day of Prayer, honoring Americaโ€™s tradition of โ€œprayer, faith, and trust in Almighty Godโ€ as the nation approaches 250 years of independence.

The proclamation points back to the founding era, noting that the Second Continental Congress declared a day of โ€œhumiliation, fasting, and prayerโ€ as the colonies sought Godโ€™s providence, protection, and blessing. It also connects Americaโ€™s faith heritage to defining moments in our nationโ€™s history, from preserving the Union and abolishing slavery to defeating atheistic communism.

The President emphasized a renewed spiritual moment in America, stating,

โ€œToday, faith in God is resurging on American shores like never before.โ€

He also highlighted the upcoming May 17 Rededicate 250 gathering on the National Mall, where thousands will gather to rededicate the United States as One Nation Under God.

The proclamation closes by encouraging Americans to pray in their houses of worship, workplaces, schools, and homes, pledging that America will continue to โ€œTell His glory among the nations.โ€

We were also grateful for a gathering of faith leaders from across the nation at The White House today to honor National Day of Prayer. The event was led by the White House Faith Office and involved:

  • Advisor to the USDA Center for Faith Dr. Alveda King
  • HUD Secretary Scott Turner (pictured above)
  • EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin
  • Other administration officials and faith leaders

Pictured above are Pastor Todd Lamphere, Dave Kubal, Dr. Tim Clinton, and Bishop Kelvin Cobaris.

NFAB Director of Coalitions and Strategic Initiatives Amanda Spiers, who was also in attendance at the gathering, said,

“It was encouraging to see such a powerful time of worship and prayer in our Nationโ€™s Capitol and center of Government, the White House. Truly incredible to see so many faith leaders uniting around a common message of God blessing this nation and bringing peace to our Land.โ€

HUD Center for Faith Addresses Homelessness

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Announces Timeline and New Direction for 2026 Homelessness Funding

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced that the 2026 Continuum of Care Notice of Funding Opportunity is expected to be published by June 1, 2026, with awards expected by December 1, 2026.

HUD says the program will place renewed emphasis on addressing the underlying causes of homelessness, moving beyond what it described as the failed status quo of โ€œhousing firstโ€ and โ€œharm reduction.โ€

The Department plans to increase investment in a broader range of solutions, including:

  • Transitional housing
  • Street outreach
  • Case management
  • Substance use disorder treatment
  • Mental health treatment
  • Job training and employment assistance
  • Childcare and outpatient healthcare

HUD is also encouraging participation from faith-based organizations, law enforcement, addiction treatment providers, mental health providers, emergency shelters, apprenticeship programs, and specialty courts.

The announcement follows a two-day federal summit focused on drug addiction among the homeless population, hosted by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, SAMHSA, HHS, and HUD. The summit brought together administration officials, treatment experts, faith leaders, and individuals who have overcome homelessness and addiction to discuss best practices, including โ€œthe integration of faith and medicine.โ€

In an April statement from The White House, HUD Secretary Scott Turner emphasized the administrationโ€™s focus on recovery and results, stating:

โ€œIt is critical we focus on real solutions that lift Americans out of homelessness. We must abandon the failed โ€˜Housing Firstโ€™ policies that have misused taxpayer funded resources without any expectation of results and too often leave individuals trapped in addiction, untreated mental illness, and indefinite dependence on government systems. HUD will promote treatment, recovery, and self-sufficiency.โ€

For faith leaders, HUDโ€™s announcement signals an opportunity to partner in compassionate, results-oriented efforts that serve those experiencing homelessness while addressing addiction, mental health, public safety, and long-term restoration.
